Ben and I graduated from Invest yesterday, and I finish work this coming Friday, which will give me seven weeks before the baby is born. Bump is still apparently testing my muscle elasticity or trying to kick his or her way out early! So now it is time to get going on finishing projects and getting the house ready. Completed project 1 – Birdie Brooches from ‘The Happy Hooker’ book:
They don’t look quite the same in the picture and something weird has happened to the middle one’s head/beak. I prefer the flowers really – and have plans to put some on a cardi for Mira that Penny helped me finish! Photos to follow soon! I am also nearly finished my shoes and doing some more on my Babette.
There are zillions of things that need doing round the house – the cushions and carpets need cleaned, the open plan living/dining/kitchen needs painted to remove all the marks that won’t wash off. I think a washable tough white is the way to go! But I’m getting over my cold, and am fed up putting house stuff off. The bathroom also needs a bit of finishing. I hope I can get through it – in a sensible, not-wearing-myself-out-before-the-baby fashion!

I was quite happy about this, although the registrar was worried that my placenta was in the wrong place. But all was fine, and no I didn’t ask if it was a boy or a girl, just the weight which currently is 7lb 12oz, so already 9oz bigger than Mira. I am quite uncomfy, and happy if there is an early appearance!

]]>Has been busy! Jamie had his eight week check up and he was so brave with his injections he barely cried! Thanks to Auntie Jackie who was a sanity saver and kept Mira occupied throughout!
Jamie now weighs almost six kilos and Mira is thirteen. She has also grown three centimetres this summer. Her favourite activity is giving Jamie kisses followed by painting…
This is a giraffe and a tiger. We had been to the zoo so she is having an animal theme at the moment. I have also had a few creative moments as I keep running out of thank you cards…
The card blanks themselves are recycled material and so is about half of the decoration.

The recipe is: zest and juice of a large lemon, a pound of sugar, a pint of boiling water and a 1/3 rd oz citric acid.
As we have another heatwave predicted, it seemed essential to have a batch made up – and the smell! Definitely in my top ten smells.
Mira felt her hair needed more jazzing up today.
There are two guaranteed ways to produce this face: saying no and turning off the TV. We have a week of exciting activities planned – yesterday was soft play and she actually went in the ball pool for a whole two minutes! Today is knit and natter day, and swimming later on. Bath time has now occured twice without drama and she is sitting on a toilet every morning (but not actually using it yet!).

I’m rather forgetful now and I can’t fight the fatigue anymore - why bother, my body knows what it needs and the world won’t fall apart without me. The dentist can wait! I feel encouraged to ’seek peace and pursue it’ and was given this wonderful picture last week which blesses me so much in this way!
When I look at it for even a short time, I feel like the qualities of the deepest meditation wash over me and I’m transported to a realm of rest. I’m so grateful for this gift!

Its not that I haven’t been being creative, its just I’m not happy enough with th results to post them! I am currently frogging a blanket and have an iffy pendant waiting for fresh inspiration, but am very proud of Mira’s work and happy to show it off to you!

I have been meditating on the breaking free of enclosure, the rising from the ashes, the soaring burst of colour, the wings flexing, beak opening in song, shining…
Painted using acrylics, irridescents and glitter on canvas. You can’t really see the shimmer in this photo but the colour is good.
Mira of course got her hands plastered with paint, but I’m going to turn her work into heart shapes to hang on a valentine tree, and bring it to Jamie’s dedication on Sunday.
She is also learning some basic cooking skills like grating, spreading, tearing herbs, flouring and rolling out…

We have a week of exciting activities planned – yesterday was soft play and she actually went in the ball pool for a whole two minutes! Today is knit and natter day, and swimming later on. Bath time has now occured twice without drama and she is sitting on a toilet every morning (but not actually using it yet!).

Mira and I went to play in the autumn leaves last Friday and this is what we made – I helped with the design!
This one she did with her friend Jenny and is all her own design. I love the explosion of colour!
And I had a go too.
I am mostly using Facebook. It is much quicker, and I am also mum to two very active, demanding children, a half time teacher, and part time spiritual practitioner, and spur of the moment creativity is likely to be shelved while we move house in three weeks.

Mira painted and glittered the card and I cut out the hearts for a tree to decorate the hall.
It was a really great day with everyone exept my brother in law, who was learning to save lives with crampons etc on icy mountains, so we’ll let him off!
I am quite sad it is over, but have great memories…

We have been getting out a bit more on our first bike! We also had a lovely walk in the park, the first time she had seen carpets of crocuses this year, and she was thrilled, she ran in and out and kept bending down to stroke the petals making excited noises and comments. She has also got great dexterity at threading beads onto elastic – hers is the little star one. She pulled them all off again so I remade it quickly as best I could remember.
I love the rainbow colours and aurora borealis coating, I really don’t care that these are mostly cheap plastic beads, they are fun and full of the things that my life is about at the moment, creativity, colour, symbolism, truth, and sharing my gifts with my kids!
Off for my first postnatal swim I believe – only about four months late!
Dang – the pool isn’t open till 9!

I am over half way in my blanket. I think it is going to take me over a year in the end because I frogged all the turquoise stripes and I’m glad I did. I didn’t want pink in it but the blanket had another plan! It nagged me until I got rid of the offending clash and it seems to work quite well. The turquoise is going in a crochet blanket later! (The Babette is still lurking but needs to wait until I get some other stuff out the way.)
Jamie is now seven months and crawling, commando style, but with constant effort at lifting that tummy for longer and longer. He still needs to figure out how to sit up but it is exciting to watch him grow and develop!

What a smile! My boy is not only sitting, he has moved from tummy crawling to knee crawling and… on our trip to Birmingham we had pulling himself up to stand.
We went to visit Ben’s sister, who cooked us the most amazing meals and took us to see sharks and otters and other cool fishies.

I photographed my drawing (no scanner), printed on cotton, made a sandwich with some angelina, net, and wadding, stitched round the edge randomly and voila!
Then I thought they would make great t-shirts…
And I painted…
Now I was a bit put off by the picture, until I realised the hens were totally blank so I could do whatever I wanted, and I knew it would be better than this! Suddenly I was seeing them in my favourite pink and blue, with quirky eyes, so I rushed home for my tester pots…
…and here they are. Kissing! They still have to get spots painted on them, but they have cheered me and everyone who sees them up, and I will use the stencil on some tables I think, so no waste there. The planter behind them I got from Sainsburys, I am not supposed to be impulse spending, but the deed is done.
I grew up with hens, and we had a couple of pet hens that came into the house for snacks, one called Chicken Chicken (I know) and one called Biscuit. They were very sweet and so soft to touch, they had lovely low chirrups and sadly I think the foxes may have got them – the foxes usually got most of the hens.
My job was collecting eggs, and I still remember the proud day when I found 32 hidden under the hay baler - a big deal when you might only get six or eight in a day. More on eggs as Easter is coming up… eggciting!

I have an obsession with tester pots, which means that I have lots of colours to play with for painting wicker baskets etc later.
My favourite white is Jasmine White, from Dulux, in the endurance paint, which is expensive but so worth it when you have children. The living room has been done in Natural Calico, and the kitchen in Sweet Sundae, all scrubbable!
So I too have fallen for the craze and a few weeks ago the pattern arrived through my letter box. I had a sale skein of Silk Garden Lite, and mixed in some other yarns to build a turquoise/pink/purple piece….
… which I think is going to be a cushion cover asI have run out of the Silk Garden yarn and I wanted to try it in a thinner wool.
Enter Silk Garden Sock, which has replaced Noro Blossom as my all time top favourite yarn – although I also like the Kureyon Sock. I have tried dyeing my own yarn and have a friend who is rather good at it, but Noro produce the most amazing blends of fibres and slubs and I am in deep smit. So I have started the wrap in the sock yarns, also found on sale.
I am looking for the book with the crescent moon shawl in it, if anyone wants to lend or sell me a second hand copy, as I really have got to stop spending money on these things and bust my stash – I did get the flower shawl from Pomadour, but am trying to save for a holiday!
The little yarn investigators are doing great, but I did nod off on the sofa last week and awake to find yarn cobwebbed all over the living room and hall. The source of the problem was that it was wrapped a couple of times round Mira’s waist and it took me over half an hour to detangle!

I am over half way in my blanket. I think it is going to take me over a year in the end because I frogged all the turquoise stripes and I’m glad I did. I didn’t want pink in it but the blanket had another plan! It nagged me until I got rid of the offending clash and it seems to work quite well. The turquoise is going in a crochet blanket later! (The Babette is still lurking but needs to wait until I get some other stuff out the way.)
Jamie is now seven months and crawling, commando style, but with constant effort at lifting that tummy for longer and longer. He still needs to figure out how to sit up but it is exciting to watch him grow and develop!

So I have a new branch that was pruned from the crab apple tree at my folks and I wanted some new eggs to hang on it for Easter.
I have been using my decopatch and tissue paper collection, just some finishing to do.
Making a baby hat for my friends little girl, in Paton’s DK and Rowan Cotton Glace. I was told by a woman in a yarn shop in York that the yarns were not exactly the same in guage but they are as near as you can get and the two colour ranges work together so brilliantly, I think you would be hard pushed to notice it really.
And cupcakes, Nigella’s with a little lime zest added and lime creamcheese icing. Yum!
